thelastjoy: Girl looking down, morose, serious; comic (Five)
[personal profile] thelastjoy
Series: Danger Days/ The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (Twitterverse, Music Videos, and Comic Mini-series)

Character: Techincally nameless, titled in the written portions as "The Girl"

Canon Point: Usually at the end of the comics, will take her from any time point for memes/psls

Appearance: At 4'10 and being of thin build, Girl is seriously small. One of her most striking features is her gray/blue eyes. Her hair is cropped short and worn natural. Girl is a light skinned mixed race woman. She doesn't wear makeup and has a few freckles across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. I'm currently using Kiersey Clemons as an extra PB to combat the lack of comic icons.

Her canon outfit is a multi-colored (blue, yellow and red) leather vest over a torn black tank top and a pair of jeans. She wears black boots and carries a green-ish backpack.

Background:

Once upon a few years ago, in the faraway land of south-central California, the world fell apart. Thanks to war, bombs, and bad decisions, the population dwindled and the landscape was reduced to a barren desert. Better Living Industries, known as BLI or BL/I, rose up to take over what was left with pills and advanced technology. Battery City was erected as the headquarters of BLI, keeping all that lived there under the iron clad control with the use of brainwashing, fear, and medication. Everything was drab and pre-approved, no music, no colors, no individuality allowed. Going against the rules could mean either facing death or being turned into a Draculoid aka to be put under a mask that induced hallucinations and brainwashed its wearers into being BLI's soldiers.

Outside the City arose the Zones, six near inhospitable areas of the surrounding desert where those who wanted freedom ran from BLI's influence and developed their own counter-culture. In the Zones, color was king, art was a weapon and people took on new names to set themselves apart from their old lives. In response to the Drac masks, the people of the Zones wore their own colorful face coverings developing the idea that everyone had to die with their own mask on in order to stay themselves.

Cue the Analogue Wars, a desperate attempt at rebellion against BLI. Leading this war was a young woman, a fierce fighter whose heart was filled with hatred against BLI and who befriended a group of very strange teenagers. Though she was fiery and strong, she and the other desert rebels lost to BLI with heavy causalities for their side. The woman was captured and put under a Draculoid mask while still on the battlefield, a clear attempt to demoralize the people of the Zones.

What BLI had not known was that the young woman was pregnant at the time. The effects of the mask, the mother's rage, the radiated atmosphere or maybe just an act of destiny, something changed the baby. The child suddenly contained a bomb in her soul, with the ability to detonate and either save the city or destroy it.

The baby was born as a little girl and the teenagers who had once served at her mother's side stole her back from the city. Calling themselves the Fabulous Killjoys (Party Poison, Kobra Kid, Jet Star, and Fun Ghoul), decided to raise the child as their own instead of sending her to the desert orphanage. In the tradition of the Zones, they did not name her and decked her out in their own colors until she was old enough to forge her own identity.

It didn't take long for them to realize something was strange about the girl. The entire desert was soon buzzing with the rumors that the child was the last hope for the zones. A religion formed around her, treating the miracle baby as a messiah that would end the war her mother started. The rumors spread to BLI and the Killjoys' job became to keep the girl alive until she was old enough to take the fight to the city.

The girl grew up on the run. With a target on the backs of her and the boys, they could never stay in one place long. She spent a life bouncing from old buildings to campsites in the Killjoys' car. The boys taught her how to read and write, how to speak and run, and all the legends of the desert. Despite being a constant target of Drac raids and having Korse, a top-level mook for BLI, after her family, the girl was given as peaceful of a life as could be had in the harsh landscape.

More than once, the Killjoys' encounters with Dracs and Korse went awry. The girl was nearly captured several times, only narrowly saved by the Killjoys intervention. The Killjoys themselves ended up in Korse's clutches a few times, lives constantly on the line for their mission against BLI. All they had was the Zone's pirated radio station that a veteran from the before times, Dr. Death Defying, owned. He and his DJs, including a former Killjoys called Cherri Cola, gave reports of all the on-goings of the Zones to give everyone an idea of where BLI might be.

But after a decade, Dr. D's reports weren't enough to keep the Killjoys away from Drac patrols and the Killjoys weren't enough to keep Korse from getting his hands on the girl. The Killjoys confronted Korse and his men one day, and this foolish action sealed their fate. there was a nasty firefight that left the Killjoys heavily injured. He left them all alive, taunting the nearly unconscious Party Poison with the kidnapping of the little girl.

The girl spent enough time in BLI headquarters for the boys to mostly heal from their injuries and devise a reckless plan to save her. The four of them invaded the city and attempted to gun down everyone in the building until they found her. They did manage to get the girl out of the room BLI had held her in, but once the Killjoys tried to leave Korse appeared again. The Killjoys knew they would likely die trying to rescue their daughter and they did. They did manage to get her out of the building first, using themselves as human shields.

The Killjoys had planned for this. They had convinced Cherri and the other DJs to act as getaway drivers, to take the girl back to the desert and raise her in the event the Killjoys couldn't. While the DJs did manage to get the child back to the Zones, they didn't get to act as parents. The girl ran away as soon as they hit the sand, distraught at everything she'd seen.

Years passed and the girl grew into a teenager while hacking it alone in the Zones. She kept only a stray cat for company, one that she did not realize was actually a BLI android used to spy on her. She kept to herself, deciding it was easier to be isolated than risk losing anyone again.

Fate had other ideas and when on a routine trip to get supplies she found Party Poison's mask. Overcome by the find, the girl tried to return back to her camp with the relic but was stopped by the Ultra Vs. They were a new group that had been terrorizing the Zones, teenagers who rejected the ideals of the Killjoys and other soldiers from the Analogue Wars. They were led by a violent, desperate man called Val Velocity who believed it was time to take the fight back to Battery City.

He stole the mask from the girl and mocked her for the tragedies she'd faced. He blamed her for the loss of the Killjoys, discredited the religion that had popped up around her and may have gotten violent with the girl if not for a Drac sighting taking priority. After a confrontation with the Dracs, the girl followed the Vs back to their home base in the hope she could get the mask back.

Her attempt proved fruitless but did out in her position to be found again by Cherri Cola. The two hadn't seen each other face to face since she ran away as a kid. The reunion was tense, as she remained angry with him for not coming with the other Killjoys during the BLI raid. But he and Dr. D had always been like uncles to her, brothers-in-arms with the Killjoys and acting as her caretakers in times when the Killjoys could not. After a tearful conversation about the deaths of their friends, the girl agreed to stay with Cherri.

Living together did give them back the playful, familial relationship they once had. Cherri took her to visit Dr. D, tried to teach her how to shoot, and tried to talk her out of her survivor's guilt from what happened to the Killjoys. However, the two would eventually have another argument while out gathering supplies and the girl would lie about wanting to stay with Dr. D.

Instead, she ran off to see the Vs again. For a second time she proved unsuccessful in retrieving the mask and after a few nights with the Vs, ended up heading to Dr. D's after hearing him use a recorded broadcast. What she found was Val standing over a bleeding Dr. D. The girl drew a gun on Val in grief, horrified to lose another member of her family. She was unable to kill him and Val escaped.

Unfortunately, not long after she leaves from mourning Dr. D she comes upon the Vs and a horde of BLI's soldiers fighting. She's unable to get away from the fray, and even Cherri showing up to defend her isn't enough. Both she and Cherri are shot. Both she and Cherri die.

As it turns out, the powers that be are not willing to let the girl stay dead. The Phoenix Witch, the reaper to the Zones, gathers the girl's spirit and tells her the truth. The girl learns about what her purpose is and the Witch sends her back to life, deciding that the girl cannot die until she detonates.

When the girl awakens alive, she takes the time to bury both Cherri and Dr. D. She cuts her hair, dresses in Killjoy colors and joins the Vs in their trek to the city. There, instead of fighting, she gives herself up to the guards. Having made her decision, she detonates.

She chose to save the city and this decision breaks the power of BLI's mind control. Elsewhere, unbeknownst to her, many others work to break down BLI's hold on the city. With all parts of the company's powers destroyed, the people of the city are finally given freedom. Val has a change of heart and gives the girl back Party's mask.

The girl goes back to the desert, wanting no part in the city after all that's happened even if it's now free. Instead, she commits the mask and other objects belonging to the Killjoys to a memorial to the Witch. She plays a recording of one of Dr. D's broadcasts on the radio and sets out with her cat into the desert once again. Before she makes it far,
a young woman in a BLI uniform comes to her for help. The woman has the girl's eyes, her smile, and for the first time, the girl gets to meet her mother.
